2013 Interior DESIGN trend - ANIMAL influences

Here is my top 10 design trends for 2013 spread out over the next 10 days...

Trend #1 Geometric Patterns

Trend #2 - ANIMAL influences

From leopard prints to zebra stripes, faux throws, even bird wallpaper, we are seeing the influence of animals in interior design everywhere we look.

Often found as area rugs, animal prints have transitioned to throw pillows, upholstery fabric, wallpaper and even window treatments.

new trend we are seeing is animal statues that are in a range of sizes.   This type of decor dates back to the art deco period where sphinx statues were a big interior design trend.

We love animal heads!  We are seeing a lot of animal heads hung on walls above beds and on art/photo walls in living rooms.  The animal heads are done in high gloss ceramic, which hugely contrasts the original idea of the life like taxidermy that graced the fireplaces of many hunting lodges.  Also found in wood geometrics it will easily add an organic edge to any decor.

Fur is in!!  It's a hot trend in both fashion and home decor.  For those of us who are on a budget, or who love your furry friends, Faux fur is your best option.  Faux furs come in many different styles, colours and faux "aminal" types.  Adding a fur rug, throw or pillow can add whimsical and trendy flare to any room.  Throw a small piece of fur on any hard surface for an extra layer of warmth and softness.  With it's obvious ability to add warmth, its a great accessory for the cold winter months.

Animal art, prints and paintings are gracing walls in all styles of decor.  Who doesn't want a huge horse on your wall in your living room?  Louis Lamour would be proud!

So as you can see, animals are having and will continue to have a huge influence in interior design and home decor trends for 2013.
